The Strutures
Light controlled houses are used for raising Turkey and Broiler pullets. These houses must be totally impervious to light, without foregoing any ventilation needs.
Light controlled houses are sometimes built as insulated structures with closed walls, and sometimes as curtained houses that may be opened. In any event, when the house is closed, the requirement is that there be "zero light." The darkening curtains are sealed black curtains, covered with an overlap curtain on the upper part to ensure total impenetrability of light when closed. When the poultry house walls are made of an insulating panel, special emphasis is placed on imperviousness to light, through the use of special black insulating materials. Brushes and other sealing details are used in doors, gates and "through the wall" installations.
